LearnDash LMS 5.2.2 is a modest maintenance release following a more substantial change in the 5.2 series. The published LearnDash changelog records that Notifications and WooCommerce integration were merged into core in version 5.2.0. The October 13 release of 5.2.2 instead focuses on the unified licensing screen and an administrative announcement banner.
Those changes should not be rolled into a single claim that 5.2.2 has just introduced notifications or course sales. The integration work arrived earlier. For an administrator upgrading from an older installation, however, it changes the list of components that need attention.
Audit the installation before collecting more add-ons
LearnDash’s developer documentation for its WooCommerce version constant explains the transition: the former standalone integration is now a bundled module whose version follows LearnDash itself. An old add-on version number is therefore not, on its own, evidence that a separate download needs to be installed alongside the new LMS.
A sensible upgrade inventory should record which integrations are active, which came from standalone packages and which are supplied by the LMS. Keep a database backup with that list. It gives the person handling a rollback something more precise than a folder full of similarly named ZIP files.
Follow one learner from purchase to progress
For a course sold through WooCommerce, test a complete enrollment on staging: place the order, check access, complete a lesson and verify the expected notification. Then inspect an existing learner account. A fresh registration working correctly does not prove that progress and permissions survived an upgrade for current students.
Where notifications are enabled on a staging copy, prevent real messages from reaching students. Use a controlled test inbox and keep the production sending configuration out of the exercise.
